		<description>The author cites our foreign aid as propping up of failed socialist economies, which fail, apparently, because they&#039;re not free-market economies like ours.  I guess he hasn&#039;t heard that free-market economies fail too, and thus our Great Recession.  And linked ironically to our free-market economy is a lot of socialist help from government, such as American farm subsidies, subsidies to pharmaceutical research, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc.

I agree we need to target our foreign aid more appropriately and strategically, to avoid some of the blunders the author cites.  My question is why do we annually give five billion and more dollars to Israel in foreign aid.  What is that money achieving?</description>
